Project Details
CDm2 LIGHTWORKS is proud to have contributed to the New St. Paul’s Hospital team to deliver a fully integrated lighting and controls solution. CDm2 worked closely with Providence Health and Plan Group to meet technical and budget requirements while promoting patient wellness, clinical precision, and operational efficiency.
We are honoured to have played a role in this landmark project alongside Providence Healthcare, HDR & Stantec Architecture, PCL Construction, Plan Group, Smith + Andersen, and the broader community.
CDm2 and our manufacturer partners provided lighting and controls to critical and complex areas of the facility including:
- Surgical and Procedural Suites – Pa-Co’s green surgical illumination and CDm2’s redundant systems
- Inpatient and Ambulatory Patient Care Areas – PACO’s SANTE family of recessed patient room luminaires with general, exam, reading, and night-lighting modes, plus downlights in care provider and family zones. Some areas using Tunable White Lighting to support circadian rhythms promoting rest and recovery
- Mental and Behavioural Health – Pa-Co’s vandal and ligature resistant solutions, some with dynamic colour changing Sensory Room functionality
- Public Spaces – Lumenpulse Lumencaore recessed luminaires and Sistemalux Linear within wood slats contribute to providing a warm and calm experience
- Utility Spaces – U-Techology task lighting in millwork and downlights
- Wiring Infrastructure – ELECTEC Manufactured Wiring System (MWS) used for streamlined installation and long-term maintenance
- Site and Area Lighting – CREE lighting delivering even illumination with dark-sky compliance
- Façade Lighting – iGuzzini Framing projectors are used to precisely illuminate exterior Building features.
Smart Controls for a Smarter Facility
Legrand’s Encelium/Wattstopper Plus, a software-based, networked lighting control system supporting both DALI-2 and 0-10VDC protocol drivers was deployed. The system integrates a selection of sensors from different manufacturers to suit the diverse performance and environmental requirements throughout the facility—offering scalable, adaptable control to enhance occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and operational insight.
CDm2’s Controls team coordinated the functional requirements of the lighting control system with the Nurse Call system provider (Austco), Energie Design, and a third party to digitally integrate both systems. Utilizing the Application Programming Interfaces (API) of both Austco and Wattstopper PLUS eliminated the need for a multitude of wired connections between systems reducing installation costs.
Adaptable Delivery Model
This project followed a Design Build model. CDm2’s deep understanding of project requirements and technical specifications is equally applicable to traditional delivery models, as well as Alliance and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) models.
