Starting from the perspective of ‘all light damages’ and ‘light quantity dictates visual acuity’ it is easy to see why conservation and light can be in conflict. But with the right application of today’s LED, optics, and controls technology, there is no reason that these two cannot live in closer harmony. Going beyond just brightness to the impact of light spectrum and distribution on visual perception can positively impact conservation and visitor experience. While many can quantify the energy savings of a switch from halogen to LED lighting, there are numerous other benefits to calculate.
